Over 6 years ago I started doing Locum work around New Zealand’s North Island.
Since then I have covered from Coopers Beach in the far north, to Otaki on the Kapiti Coast north of Wellington as well as traveling to ans working in Australia.
Many Physios have been desperate for Locums and I am sorry to have had to turn many down.
I have found the work to very rewarding and very educational. So much so that my treatment methods have gone through a radical change.
I absolutely recommend Locum work to Physios wanting to see parts of New Zealand and Australia you may not have been to before.
It is a challenge to go to a new Practice or Hospital, suddenly see 15 - 20 Patients I have never seen before and attempt to treat them with the methods of treatment they are used to. I do not always get it right, but after a few days I usually get into the "swing of things".
I am usually fairly unflappable as one particular Receptionist will testify. She said she had been trying to test me!
However it will soon be time for me to Retire!
Who will Physios out of the City areas be able to call on?
I will be 73 yrs. this year.
Treatments I have radically changed over the last 5 years are to the Shoulder, Cervical Spine and Lumbar Spine.
In these areas I now get Patients to do most of the treatments themselves.
This is fun as they feel their pain reducing and I ask, "who did that, you or me?"
They have to admit that they did it!
Things people have missed. look at Forgotten Muscles Interesting insights on the Wrist and Planta fascia.
As a portion of my ongoing training I now have just done some Basis treatments for the Shoulder, Cervical and Lumbar Spines. See Some Basic Treatments.
I am also creating a Web Site on all things on the shoulder and Rotator Cuff.
